How to get here:
We are located on the west end of the first floor of the Howard S. McDonald Building.
The McDonald Building is just south of the Engineering Building (EB), and north east of the Life Sciences Building (LSB)
MRI machines are very strong magnets (up to 160,000 times the earth's magnetic field!). Due to this amazing amount of power, safety precautions are taken to prevent injury and property damage.
Here are some things to keep in mind to help us keep you safe
Before entering the magnet room you must remove all:
Credit cards, ID cards, coins, keys, Cell phones, IPODS, other electronics, Digital & analog watches, Eyeglasses, hearing aids, Jewelry, earrings/ body piercings, rings, Hair clips, pins, barrettes, Long zippers (e.g., jacket), hats, Safety pins, paper clips, Pens, clipboards, Pocket knife, nail clippers, tools, Shoes, medication patches
NO METAL OF ANY KIND IS ALLOWED IN THE MAGNET ROOM
For your convenience leave any of these items possible at home.
If you are scheduled for a scan please avoid wearing:
under-wire bras, suntan lotion, anti-microbial athletic clothing
zippers and buttons are usually safe
We will not scan you if:
You have a new tattoo (with in the last 48 hours)
You are pregnant
You have a pacemaker or ICD
You have any other contraindications to being scanned
